Psychotherapy

I am not currently accepting private practice clients.

I offer individual, group and family psychotherapy. I have experience and training with most presenting issues, from adjustment to expected life stressors like moves to college or lost jobs to major mental illness such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder. My particular areas of expertise are workplace stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, and psychotic disorders. I use a client-centered approach, which means that our first few meetings will involve discussing your particular needs and goals. Before I try to help you get better, I have to know what better means for you.

I believe in a recovery-oriented approach, which means that I help you define and achieve goals in multiple areas, such as emotional health, physical health, social life, recreation, etc. I prefer for the work of therapy to extend beyond one hour per week sessions, so I will almost always have some work for you to do between sessions. I prefer to use smartphone apps for this between session work, but I am happy to work with the technologically illiterate and smartphone holdouts as well.

Organizational Consulting

Are you concerned about the mental health of your workforce? Here are some of the signs that you could benefit from a psychological consultant:

  • Inappropriate use of sick time
  • Toxic employees
  • Unhealthy work culture
  • Loafing or loss of productivity
  • High turnover

I am particularly looking to consult with IT or research based organizations – essentially, the nerdier, the better – but I have experience working with first responder agencies, domestic violence shelters, and healthcare providers as well. You do not have to be a manager or a CEO to engage my services, I am also happy to help rank-and-file employees make proposals to the higher-ups. My services have three phases

Phase I – Data Gathering

Using empirically validated tools for mental health, wellness and organizational functioning, as well as key informant interviews and focus groups, I create a data-driven snapshot of your organization’s needs and strengths to inform my recommendations.

Phase II – Recommendations

Using the data gathered from your organization, the relevant literature and my expertise and experience, I create a tailored list of recommendations. These recommendations may include policy changes, new programs, or specialized training for your staff. I review these recommendations with you and others from your organization. I believe this process works best when my expertise in the data and the literature is combined with your expertise in your own organization.

Phase III – Implementation

Once we have created a tailored plan for your specific needs, I will help you enact these changes within your organization. I am available to provide in-person or remote trainings, and I can provide the hands-on experience with behavior change that can ensure that whatever steps we take will be adopted and appreciated by your workforce.

Statistics Consulting

Methods sections are my specialty!

I have always heard that people in Psychology are good at science but bad at math. I don’t know if that’s true, but if it is I am the exception. Do you need a power analysis? Help with a Monte Carlo simulation? Don’t know what a Monte Carlo simulation is? You’re my perfect client. I am available to consult on grant applications, dissertation proposals or data analysis projects any time.

My process is simple. I meet with you to discuss your needs – your research question, what data you have access to (or are trying to get), your resources, etc. I’ll help you determine the perfect data analysis plan, provide a tutorial on the statistics involved, and help you to outline your methods section. If you are looking for a co-author for the data analysis on your research project, reach out to me! I am happy to read all requests, but I will be particularly happy if your topic is technology and mental health, trauma, addiction, culture and mental health, or psychosis.
